LEARN MORE ABOUT THE VIVACE YOUTH CHOIR

The Vivace Youth Choir is an intermediate program that involves extracurricular activities including an overnight trip to Prince George, BC. Weekly activities include instruction on solo and group vocal techniques, vocal health, sight-singing and aural development for matching tones and tuning up to 6-part harmony. Music is chosen with the students’ interests in mind, and youth have input on arrangements and style, including choreography and costuming. There are opportunities for solos and duets as well as additional sectional rehearsals. The music we learn varies in style, genre, and degree of difficulty, from popular music and jazz to classical, from Broadway hits to traditional tunes.

Ages 12 to 17
Vivace singers are usually between Grades 7 and 12. Because this group learns discusses sometimes challenging repertoire (both in style and theme), it is NOT recommended that children younger than 12 or not yet in Grade 7 join this program. Please see the Bravura Children's Choir instead.

Season Sep to May
Registered families will receive confirmation of starting dates by the first week of school in the fall. This year, we'll be starting mid- to late-September.
-
Rehearsal Days Tuesdays
The Vivace Youth Choir meets for 1-1/2 hours each week. The class begins at 3:30 and ends at 5:00 on Tuesday afternoons. We will have additional practices on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 6:30-8:00.

Instructor Caitlyn Triebel
Rehearsals are led by Caitlyn Triebel, with collaborative pianist, Aaron Marchuk. Students working on solos will be expected to put in extra coaching time with Aaron.

When you register, you get password access to extra practice materials, and other ways to connect with the program while staying engaged between rehearsals. Because the Vivace Youth Choir often performs by memory, we need families to support singers in learning their songs for performances. Materials include:

One Night Only Concert
Starting in September, students are mentored through the process of programming and promoting their own show choir production. They are involved in choosing music and arrangements, rehearsing, promotions, staging, props, costumes, choreography, and more. As this is a student-led project, singers are expected to practice their songs for One Night Only on their own when weekly rehearsals are focused on other events. This concert is typically filmed and televised by Peace FM and Chet TV.
Prince George & District Music Festival
The provincial-qualifying music festival in Prince George, BC happens every year in mid- to late-February. The DCCS Vivace Youth Choir attended this festival for the first time on an overnight trip (2 nights) in 2020. The experience of hearing other youth and adult choirs, and receiving adjudications is invaluable for the development of our choir. There is a $50 commitment fee to attend this competition, and an expectation that students and their families will participate in fundraising activities. Members will have access to the DCCS Travel Policy and permission forms from the Practice Page.
Vivace Choir Uniforms
Because the Vivace Youth Choir does competitive travel, we do have a standard uniform for 2020-21. A group order will be made by the end of October to ensure items are received before the group performs. Uniforms will be no more than $130, with students expected to purchase them. If cost is a concern for your family, please let your instructor know. DCCS holds a few extra sizes in each item to loan out for a season. If you’d like to order on your own, you’re welcome to do so from the links provided below.
Men’s Tuxedo Vest Ensemble (w/ royal blue tie)
Ladies Satin-Wrap Cummerbund (Royal)
Ladies’ Blouse TBA
(the blouse we ordered from RW&Co for last season has been discontinued)

Additional Program Information
Parent volunteers will be needed throughout the season, including box office, concessions, and ushering at concerts. Students are expected to volunteer for fundraising events. Up to 6 parents will also be needed as chaperones for the overnight trip. It truly takes a village.
Singers do not need a ticket to concert events, but family and volunteers do. Ticket revenue subsidizes DCCS program costs and are generally $15 each.
Fundraising happens year-round for all DCCS programs, but extra is expected of Vivace singers to subsidize the overnight trip and One Night Only concert. You will be required to either sell tickets or products, or provide baking/concession items (or both!). Participation in fundraising is mandatory.
Vivace singers will be invited to sing in Choir for Hire, which are voluntary extra performances with other choir groups, out in the broader community.
Music folders are assigned to singers on their first day of rehearsal. These folders contain all music for the course of the year, and may be added to or subtracted from during the season. All singers are required to pay a $20 refundable deposit which will be returned after safe return of the folders.
In a team atmosphere, all Vivace singers work to support one another on different ventures. We are more than just a group that sings together!
